| Guidelines: |
1. You must have
signatures on the Academy grids verifying the exact hours and dates for
which you have volunteered. If you have misplaced your grid, you can
find new ones on the information table outside of Room 451 North.
2. Working for an
individual (other than a teacher in this school) does not earn you
credit. You must work for an organization.
3. Just because you
work for free, does not mean it is community service. If you work for a
business, a doctor, etc., you are not really performing community
service. To be sure your hours will count, work for NON-PROFIT
organizations. Places like the YMCA or senior citizen homes are ideal. 4. Performing religious activities, like singing in a church choir, do not count for community service credit.
Individual teachers will explain their specific policies to you.
6. With the
exception of the 12th graders with special programs,
community service may not be completed during school hours.
7. Students who
chose not to volunteer, must write a 15 page paper on a Volunteer
Organization or a person famous for his/her volunteer work. Students
should see their teachers for guidelines.
8. If you have any
questions, please see your teacher or Mr. Randle BEFORE you begin the
community service. It is better to find out your service would not
count-before you start it!
9. Upon completion
of your volunteer work, you will write a two page paper describing your
experience. You must include photos to document your service as part of your reflection paper. See your teacher for specific guidelines. Reflections will be due around May 15th of each school year.
10. If you volunteer on a regular basis for an organization or charity, make sure to get a letter of recommendation as documentation of your service.
